Lighthouse Club members Jack Hensley, Richard Butler and club president Bob Keller are armed and ready to “keep the lights for you” on Lake Havasu. The club is having a Mother’s Day Steak Barbecue and Charity Auction to help fund the maintenance of the 19 lights now located on the shores of Lake Havasu.
The profession of lighthouse keeper has virtually disappeared, but in Lake Havasu City, dozens of members of the Lake Havasu Lighthouse Club volunteer their time to build and then maintain the lighthouses that adorn the lake and serves as aids to navigation.
The afternoon will be filled with activity, including raffles, door prizes, a silent auction and a live auction with professional auctioneer Ray Fenter. “If you haven’t heard a professional auctioneer in person,” Bittner said, “you really shouldn’t miss it. Ray is fun and comical, and his sing-song auctioneer banter is delightful to listen to.
“This year we are doing a steak barbecue and charity auction at Campbell’s Ranch on Mother’s Day,” said Fran Bittner, chairman of the event. “There will be live entertainment, a professional auctioneer and some really wonderful items up for bid that would be terrific Mother’s Day gifts, or couple’s gifts.”
The steak barbecue is noon to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for rib-eye steak, potato salad, beans, bread and dessert. There will be a kids hot dog meal for $5 for those ages 5 to 13. The club will also have a no-host beer, wine and soda bar available.

Lighthouse Club hosts Mother’s Day event at Campbell Ranch.
“The light houses need routine maintenance, of course,” said Bob Keller, president of the club; “but we also have to repair frequent vandalism and occasionally have to replace the solar charged batteries that power the lights, and those batteries are pricey.”
The non-profit group depends entirely on the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations to fund their life-saving efforts on behalf of boaters — particularly nighttime boaters. So, each year the club hosts a fundraiser to refresh the maintenance budget.
“With restaurants overflowing on Mother’s Day, this event offers a fun alternative, an afternoon together with no reservations or long waits for a table,” Bittner said.
Throughout the afternoon, live music will be provided by Buck and Rosie, featuring a wide variety of songs from old time rock and roll to country and pop.
