Mount Desert Rock Lighthouse
Decorative concrete artist Brian Cannon of Rock of Ages Inc, Taos, N.M., provided all the stonework on the replica lighthouse.
“They did a great job with this lighthouse,” said John Rowe. I'd say it's the most important lighthouse on the lake in terms of navigation.”
Rowe and his wife Janet are teaming with their neighbors, the Sundins, to sponsor a lighthouse for the Island shoreline just off the 15th hole at the Havasu Island Golf Course.
“We're looking at a Great Lakes-based lighthouse because John is from Minnesota,” said Janet Rowe.
Lighthouse navigational lights are also planned for Spectator Point, Piccadilly Point and Site Six on the Island, as well as one for Copper Canyon on the south and the Havasu Wildlife Refuge to the north. Each is listed by the club as “in progress.”
“We operate solely by donations,” said Keller. “So, we're always looking for new members to help any way they can.”
